Description Product

Details about : 18 mm gasket on master cylinder for VOLKSWAGEN Combi Bay Window (08/1967-07/1979)

The master cylinder gasket is a small but important component of your vehicle's braking system. It is used to ensure a good seal around themaster cylinder nipple, where the brake lines attach. The seal prevents brake fluid leakage and protects the master cylinder from contaminants, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the braking system.

The seal ensures that brake fluid does not leak where the brake hoses connect to the master cylinder. Without an effective seal, fluid loss could occur, compromising brake performance.

It also protects the inside of the master cylinder from dirt, moisture and dust that could enter and cause wear or failure in the braking system.

By preventing leakage, the seal helps maintain the correct pressure in the braking system, which is essential for optimum brake performance.

Most master cylinder end seals are made from rubber, a material that offers good resistance to brake fluids, moisture and heat. This material remains flexible and durable, even under difficult conditions.

There are a number of symptoms that can help you determine whether your seal is showing signs of weakness:

- Brake fluid leaks around the master cylinder nipple.

- Spongy or less responsive brake pedal, which may indicate a leak in the system.

- Visible brake fluid stains on or around the master cylinder nipple.

To change your seal, start by unscrewing or disconnecting the brake hoses from the master cylinder. Once the hoses have been removed, remove the old gasket from the end cap. Use a screwdriver or other small tool to remove it carefully, without damaging the metal of the master cylinder or nipple.

Before fitting the new gasket, carefully clean the area around the master cylinder nipple and hose connection. Make sure there are no brake fluid residues or dirt that could interfere with installation.

Take the new gasket and insert it around the master cylinder end. It must fit snugly around the end cap to ensure a complete seal.

Once the gasket is in place, reconnect the brake lines to the master cylinder nipple, making sure they are tight to prevent any leaks.

Once the gasket has been installed and the hoses secured, repeat the test by depressing the brake pedal to check the tightness of the seal. If the pedal is still spongy or you see leaks, it may be necessary to readjust the connections or check the condition of the gasket.

If you're replacing a master cylinder tip gasket, it's also a good opportunity to check the condition of the master cylinder, brake lines and other brake system components.

Make sure the brake fluid level is sufficient after seal installation and repairs. Also check for visible leaks around the hoses or master cylinder.
