An enlarged version of the Seat Leon, the Altea model plays in the range of compact minivans. It offers a different driving position and comfort. Its 2/3 & 1/3 sliding and folding rear bench seat allows you to play with the modularity and loading volume of the boot. Marketed from 2004, the Altea received 5 stars in the EuroNCAP crash test thanks to a secure passenger compartment. It includes 6 airbags as standard, electronic safety belts and the ISOFIX system for fixing child seats directly to the chassis. Its galvanized body is guaranteed against corrosion. Its multi-link axle chassis provides stability and safety in addition to a low center of gravity and firm suspension. Embedded technologies are not left out! (DRS for Driver Steering Recommendation), ABS, TCS (Traction Control System), ESP (Stability Control), EBA (Emergency Brake Assist). For models equipped with AFS bi-xenon headlights (adaptive directional headlights), the light beam moves according to the rotation of the steering wheel, widening the field of vision. The distribution on the French territory of the Altea will be more than 80% provided with a Diesel engine. The 1.6, 1.9 and 2.0 liter TDi were available in the catalog, from 105 to 170hp as well as some atmospheric or turbo petrol versions from 85 to 160hp. After restyling in 2009, production of the compact MPV stopped in 2015 and will not be continued. It leaves its place to the Seat Ateca in 2016 surfing on the range of SUVs.
