The first vehicle conceived by Porsche is a hybrid car equipped with electric wheel motors. Designed at the beginning of the 20th century, when he had not yet established his own company and was working for Lohner, the Lohner-Porsche caused a sensation at the 1900 World's Fair in Paris but was never commercialized. Dr. Porsche worked for Austro-Daimler from 1918 to 1923 and then for DMG until 1926 on various racing cars.
From 1926 to 1929, Ferdinand Porsche worked in the Benz-DMG consortium (Mercedes-Benz) and directed the design of the famous SS and SSK models. Porsche then started his own company, and his mechanical engineering design office worked on various projects. The first model to be actually built by the company would only arrive after World War II, in 1948. It was the 356, built on the basis of a VW Beetle designed by Ferdinand Porsche in 1938. In 1951, following the founder's death, Ferdinand Porsche's son, Ferry, took over the reins of the company. The initial sketch of the famous Porsche 911 was made in 1959, but the final model was officially unveiled four years later at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Equipped with a rear-mounted 2.0-liter six-cylinder engine, the developed model was a success and continues to be in production today.
Today, Porsche is part of the Volkswagen Group, where it is the tenth automotive brand, with nearly a dozen different models and numerous variations of the famous 911.
