Timeless, identifiable at first glance as at the first note of its twin-cylinder engine. The deuche has the power to trigger a broad smile among all generations thanks to its unique look and sound. A must-see in French and European cities and countryside for nearly 50 years, it will remain, for a long time to come, associated throughout the world with the gentle French way of life and the bon vivant spirit of the French.
It was under the direction of the Michelin Family that the famous specifications for the TPV, the Very Small Car, were drawn up. But it was after 13 years, a world war, the destruction of its plans and the walling of its prototypes on the upper floor of a barn that the 2cv saw the light of day in 1948. Despite a very turbulent gestation, its initial ambition remained the same: (re)motorize France at lower cost. And its success was such that the first owners to receive their 2cv were selected according to their profession and delivery times for the first models well exceeded a year.
Among the keys to its commercial success, the simplicity of its maintenance, the innovation of its line and its architecture, the relevance of the technical solutions used on the smallest part of the “2 legs » have made it possible to make its easy and economical maintenance. This reliability and this apparent ease of use and maintenance was accompanied by constant developments and improvements to adapt to the road network and to the company, making the 2cv one of the old vehicles most adapted to the standards and traffic of the 21st century. Mecatechnic sells spare parts for your car or your auto accessories for Citroen 2CV and derivatives.
The Citroen brand therefore reinvented its concept several times, using many of its spare parts for the creation of numerous derivatives: From its At the beginning, the 2cv type A/AZ offered the robustness of their chassis and the ease of maintenance of their engine to a veritable dynasty of utility vehicles. From the first 2cv AU, to the latest AK400, the hardworking and agile 2cv vans roamed the roads of France and Navarre. Then came the two cousins the AMI6 and the AMI8, which were to fill, by offering more modern bodies and more comfortable interiors, the gaping hole existing in the Citroen range between the 2cv AZAM and the legendary DS. In May 68, it was the turn of the Méhari to borrow many of its components from the 2cv. Unveiled in the midst of a cultural revolution, it reused the engine and running gear of the deuch to transform a practical vehicle into a fun object, symbol of an entire generation.
Finally, it is the DYANE and its derivative the Acadiane, which were supposed to put an end to the life of the 2hp. By offering a more modern line and layout to a vehicle with almost identical undersides. Citroen thought it would put an end to the 2cv, but the 2cv, which was worth 3 since the arrival in 1970 of the 2cv4 and 2cv6, resisted and survived the DYANE for 8 years and even if the ACADIANE managed to replace the 2CV vans, it is indeed the 2cv which saw the Dyane, its supposed replacement, disappear before it thanks to special series equipped with numerous accessories.
Whether it is its interior layout, its engine, its bodywork, its brakes, its electricity, or its running gear, everything or almost everything is remanufactured. Maintenance and the restoration/renovation of a 2cv is within the reach of many amateur mechanics. Almost all 2CV spare parts are available, often produced with original tools, and offering, as with the bodywork, higher quality than the original. Restarting or maintaining a 2cv, a Van, a Dyane, an AMI or a Méhari therefore requires mechanical skills that are often basic, but also sometimes very complex and unique in the automotive world as their design was unique.
If this is less the case for the Dyanes, Ami or Méhari, the 2cvs in circulation have often seen their configuration move away from that which they had when leaving the Citroen factories. By the great diversity of the versions produced, the profusion of special series, the possible interchangeability of a large number of spare parts.
